What does the conflict between Nietzsche and Wagner reveal, once we reread Nietzsche's texts while listening to the music?

Dominique Pagani begins by describing the background against which the Nietzsche-Wagner dossier plays out: at the end of the nineteenth century, European music is exhausted and seeks to renew itself in two ways, by a return to archaisms (the Russian school, Stravinsky) or by the dissolution of tonality stemming from the Tristan chord (Schoenberg). He then reads paragraph 255 of Beyond Good and Evil. He shows the opposition between the south and the north and, above all, the dichotomy of the healthy and the unhealthy which, in Nietzsche, takes precedence over the true and the false, good and evil, the beautiful and the ugly. He also sees in it the trace of the escapism proper to that century. He then contests the image of a progressive Nietzsche facing a reactionary Wagner: he draws on Losurdo for Nietzsche's antisemitism, on the Wagnerian idea of drama, and on the "Hollywood" side of the praise of Carmen. He ends with Nietzsche's "admissions": the letters on the prelude to Parsifal and the "Song of the Tombs" in Zarathustra, where Wagner becomes the "murderous singer." He concludes by asking Nietzscheans to read Nietzsche closely and to listen to more music.
