Is memory the condition of happiness and identity, or is forgetting its condition instead?

Dominique Pagani opens a cycle on amnesia and anamnesis. He reserves the properly philosophical texts for the next session and starts from his stay in Corsica, where the study of megaliths showed him an ideological thickness that blurs memory. He then poses the problem of identity: the statement "I have changed" is dialectical, and the self that persists through change depends in part on an effort of memory. Rousseau's second walk describes total amnesia experienced as rapture; the fifth describes a full happiness, outside time, in the mere feeling of existence. He compares these texts to Nietzsche, who praises forgetting against the historical sense, and defends against him historical reconstruction in the face of the reign of emotion. He ends with Proust, where involuntary memory carried by music makes happiness reborn within suffering itself.
