Is desire only a way of not thinking about death, and freedom a mere pretext for avoiding it?

Dominique Pagani greets new listeners and postpones his answer to political questions that require more time. He then reads a listener's question on death, desire, and freedom, correcting its formulation point by point. He replaces death with finitude, then draws on Spinoza to show that desire is not a tool: it is desire that makes use of us. He establishes that freedom is not a red herring but the result of human praxis over the long term, with Hölderlin, the Dutch, and the painting discussed by Hegel. He ends with Rousseau: so-called personal problems are human problems, which do not stem from any natural determination.

About this session (in French)

Contrat rempli?
