Can we show that a logic is at work in human affairs, and what role do memory, forgetting, and anamnesis play in Phèdre's tragic confession?

Dominique Pagani starts from a question from the audience about scientificity beyond the natural sciences, in Hegel, Marx, and Engels. He maintains that philosophy and the historical sciences are a discipline, between the rigor of mathematics and the speech of the poet, because they work in an everyday language that is a pact with its ground of darkness. He defends Engels as a pedagogue and pleads for epistemic caution. He then chooses Racine's Phèdre to show the efficacy of Marxist categories where they are least expected: Phèdre is a tragedy of confession, from which he draws an "algebra" and an "arithmetic," Hippolytus's six months and the hubris of departure. He arrives at Phèdre's confession as a hallucinated anamnesis, where memory, taken up by the imagination, conjugates all tenses and moods of verbs.
