Are nature and landscape interchangeable terms?

Dominique Pagani presents the new cycle "Nature or Landscape?" starting from a pictorial triptych: Poussin's Et in Arcadia Ego, Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People, and Friedrich's Two Men Contemplating the Moon. Between the ordered, diurnal nature of classicism and the nocturnal nature of romantic escape, he places the French Revolution, a rupture that extends to the present day. He then proposes reserving the term nature for what bears no mark of human activity, and calling landscape the compromise between the natural given and human development, drawing on the history of the words campagne and paese. He connects this cycle to questions left open since the cycle on Nerval, which he calls a "bug": naming is a sovereign act and so-called "natural" language is not natural. The session ends with Perceval and the question he does not ask, then with a commented reading of Rimbaud's "Mouvement," which he presents as an industrial landscape.
