What does Le voyage de la fanfare show, a novel about a brass band from Ajaccio invited in 1978 by Bokassa to the Central African Republic, about ordinary Corsican people and their encounter with Africa?

Dominique Pagani presents the novel Le voyage de la fanfare. He relates it to his own African path and his Corsican origins, and questions its genre. The author explains that she wants to give existence to the ordinary people of Ajaccio, far from the cliché of the Corsican thug. Readings alternate with commentary: the ritual of the eye, skin color as a determination that only exists through opposition and as a social determinant, then the contradictory figure of Bokassa, completed by a participant's testimony about Bangui. The exchange arrives at the idea that art saves; he extends it with his experience of a music training center in Niger and the hypothesis of Corsican colonial orality. The discussion ends on the absence of a literature of the Corsican people, on island identity that changes according to place, and on a saying of Nietzsche's.
