How can a book give linear form to Dominique Pagani's oral teaching, and what does this teaching say about the specificity of philosophy, of modernity, and of the question "what must I do"?

The session presents the book "Pagani sans détours," which puts into writing six years of workshops. The author of the book opens the session: in it he sought a rigorous beginning for philosophy and a critique of ecological naturalism. Dominique Pagani then comments on the book's plan. He starts from the specificity of the philosophical field, moves through the progression empiricism, rationalism, determinism, and arrives at the crisis of determinism, where the question "what must I do" presupposes freedom. To resolve the hiatus that the book reveals before the part on modernity, he proposes thinking modernity in logical terms: Greek humanism, Christianity, the French Revolution, then the cunning of reason and the meaning of history as the progress of freedom. Questions from the audience concern the class struggle, the link between freedom and equality, the philosopher's scruple before writing, the logic of the subject, and reading recommendations.
