What distinguishes philosophy from other fields of knowledge, and why is its relation to language essential to it?

Dominique Pagani sets aside political current events and returns to the nature and origin of philosophy. He distinguishes it from wisdoms: it does not ask "what is it?" but "what do you call?". This question separates it from the dogmatist and the skeptic and engages a relation to language. He then places the philosopher between the mathematician, who forges a univocal language, and the poet, who speaks in images: the philosopher wants rigor without leaving everyday language, because his aim is not only to know. Kant's question "what must I do?" shows that philosophy presupposes freedom, whose existence is nonetheless not proven. He ends by reading the introduction to Lavoisier's treatise: one cannot perfect science without questioning language.
