What is the value of Michel Foucault's project, in his 1966 interview, of an ethnology of our own knowledge that announces the end of philosophy and the death of man?

Dominique Pagani comments step by step on a televised interview of Michel Foucault from 1966. He approves of the method of looking at oneself from the outside, as an ethnologist, and treating social facts as things, but he notes in Foucault the "tic" of the radical break, as old as philosophy itself, which is parricide. He then situates the interview in 1966, a pivotal date of a counter-revolution that attacks the "cursed triangle" formed by humanism, universalism and progressivism, and he recalls that precedents for this trial of man are found among the ideologues of the Third Reich. He traces Foucault's formal systems back to the neo-Kantianism of Lévi-Strauss, which Clouscard identifies as the common trait of counter-revolutionary thought. He arrives at a critique of the reign of necessity that Foucault puts in the place of man: for him, man is defined by institution, which goes against instinct, by his indeterminacy and by his condition as a migrant without essence.
