Why is Michel Clouscard's work indispensable, and why must it be translated into English?

Dominique Pagani starts from Lenin's "What Is to Be Done?": in the immediate situation, a detour through theory is first needed. Funding the English translation of Clouscard is thus a political question. He recalls his relationship to Clouscard, then presents Le Capitalisme de la séduction through the chapter on the country house. He then situates the work between two dates, the Liberation and May '68. He distinguishes the '68 of the workers from the liberal-libertarian '68, then shows that after '68 Gaullism and communism decline in favor of the extreme centre. He arrives at the thesis of Néofascisme et idéologie du désir, according to which fascism returns through the liberal-libertarian left. He concludes on Clouscard's ontological solitude and sees in seduction a sign of progress: capitalism needs public opinion.
