Is youth, in Rousseau, a passing state or a definitive one?

Dominique Pagani starts from a question from the audience on the place of youth in Rousseau. He relates Rousseau's relation to youth to the figure of the philosopher "half-born," then shows, starting from the Reveries, that Rousseau neither praises old age nor youth: there is never any youthism in him. He links youthism to the ruling classes by reading the passage of Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit on femininity, "the eternal irony of the community." He then affirms that education from youth onward is the key in Rousseau, who remains attached to the passions until the end, without believing in any going back: ignorance cannot be learned, against Nietzsche's attempt. He arrives at the Letter on Virtue, where the state reminds the individual of everything it owes him.
